Sunday, August 3rd

I finally have a chance to sit down and update everybody on our two boys Buddy and Ricky Bobby. Lets start with Buddy. As you know me and Buddy ran into some training issues quite a few weeks ago. After several attempts to correct the problem (with lots of help and advice) we have decided not to push Buddy's training any further. I will show him "in hand" at the Wyoming challenge but not under saddle. I believe that who ever adopts him will be able to continue his training successfully as long as there is no time limit. He is a great horse but needs more time to feel completely comfortable with a rider.

Ok, now on to Ricky Bobby. I think I have a new best friend. He is such a fun little guy. We ride at least once a day sometime twice. He is meeting all of Penrose street by street. He has encountered other horse , cows, peacocks, dogs, rude drivers, you name it. He has handled every experience better than I could have ever expected. He is doing so well at his arena training I have run out of things to teach him. Now I am just working on repetition so we can perfect all his maneuvers. Heather from Sears donated several banners that we put up around the arena. Ricky Bobby looked at them for about 2 seconds and blew them off. He could really care less about much in the way of "scary objects".

Ok I may be getting a little ahead of myself here, yes Ricky Bobby is doing amazing but there is a big world out there, still some things that he needs introduced to. Over the next few weeks I would like to load him in as many different trailers as I can, and ride him in as many new places as I can.

Alright I think I more than made up for the lack of updates and there will be more to come.

Thursday, August 7th

Finally some rain, and a perfect day for slicker training. Ricky Bobby was a little jumpy at first but decided if I was holding it, that it could not be too dangerous. Once I put it on he really didn't care at all. I did find out that I need to start carrying things off the back of the saddle that rub down both his back legs.

The last couple of days we have worked on the back up "L" pattern and pivot box. He is doing pretty well at those things. I have finally got him responding to my cues at a lope and figure 8's with lead changes are almost automatic. A fun couple of days but he needs to relax so tomorrow we are planning to go on a trail ride and his only responsibility will be to carry me around. He deserves it.

Friday, August 8th

Frisbee day, as you can tell today we played frisbee around and from the saddle with Ricky Bobby. Not even a flinch even when the frisbee went astray and either hit him in the butt or the head. What a good boy.

Saturday, August 9th

Today a friend of mine brought out his kids to play with the mini's and the mustangs. It was a fun day. They all took turns leading any horse they could get their hands on. Both Buddy and Ricky Bobby were right in the middle of things. Neither one gave any of the kids problems even over the many obstacles. Both soaked up all the attention. Sorry to anyone who wanted to be first to ride Ricky Bobby besides me. Fred begged me to let him ride and I couldn't say no in front of his kids. Another great day with the wild and crazy mustangs.

Sunday, August 10th

It is about time I got some pictures of me and Ricky Bobby out and about. Pam and myself took the horses all over Penrose looking for new and exciting things for Ricky Bobby to see. Today he met mini burros, pigs, cows, other horses on the road, and an ugly llama.
