Well we got back from Ft. Collins late Sunday and I have to say it was an amazing weekend.  Playboy shined like the star that he is.  I on the otherhand got a little nervouse and messed up a couple of manuvers.  But we sure did have fun.  This challenge had us split onto two teams and we were on Al Dunning team. GO BLUE.  Anyway I sure did learn allot from that man.  He took the time to help each of us individually on what he thought we needed to improve on most.  Sunday was the public auction/adoption.  Playboy was the 2nd highest selling horse for $5500.  And best of all Dee got to take him home.  It all worked out.  Thanks to everyone for your support and help for the past 90 days.  I sure am going to miss Playboy but he is in a great home and loved allot.

Well my time with Playboy is comming to an end.  I have had so much fun training this mustang, it is going to be really hard to see him go.  If it works out as planned he will be going to his new home in Kansas with Dee.  Playboy is an exceptional mustang, and I hope I do justice at the competition. I know he is ready.  We leave early in the morning.  It is only a 3 hour drive to Ft. Collins so no big rush to leave.  I will post more after the contest is over.

First I would like to apologize for my lack of updates.  The problem is that I am having so much fun with Playboy that I can’t seem to pull myself away long enough to type.,  OK, so the last few weeks Playboy has got to chase some cows around(finally).  He is a natural at it.  I may not know what I am doing but he likes moving them around.  Playboy has also been traveling with us to all our mounted shooting contests.  Including a 3 day shoot.  He has been doing amazing.  He is so relaxed and calm.  He even lays down to nap during all the commotion of a shoot.  And then doesn’t bother getting up when Tonia or I go in to clean his pen.  Any way it has been a little of the same ole same ole, that’s why no videos or pics.

I know it has been a while since I have posted an update, but it is here finally.  The last week or so I have just been riding Playboy everyday and working on the basics.  This past weekend Dee drove down from Kansas to see Playboy.  Dee was here for Playboys first lesson and drove back to see his progress first hand.  So instead of showing her how Playboy is I let her find out for herself.  Dee rode Playboy for the past 3 days and he did great.  I feel sorry for anyone who bids against her in June.  Also this weekend Mark, Steve and I got together with our horses.  All 3 of us are competing against each other in this makeover.  I think the experience was great for all three of us and our Mustangs.

Finally the wind has stopped.  What a great couple of days.  I was certain that “Playboy” would be a little difficult after having 3 days off, but he was amazing.  He did not forget anything.  I rode him around town yesterday and worked him in the arena today.  We are working on stops.  The problem here is I have to learn at the same time as Playboy.  This type of training is fairly new to me.  I have never had much use for a sliding stop.  So we are coming along pretty well.  I have also been keeping up with his scary object training.  Here are a couple of videos from today.

Wind, wind, wind, wind.  That’s all I know.  Training has been really hampered by the wind.  “Playboy” doesn’t seem to by bothered by it ,but I am.  Well today the wind was so bad I thought the saddle might blow away so I rode him bareback for the first time since his first ride.  Tonia was able to anchor herself down long enough to take a short video.  If the weather ever changes I will get more done this week.

Is this wind ever gonna stop?  Well I was able to get at least 2 hours in with “Playboy” today.  Today he was put to work.  A little manual labor never hurt anyone.  He may have thought he was working anyway.  I introduced him to the fun of dragging things around.  He did really well.  We dragged a log around forwards and backwards.  I guess that doesn’t sound to exciting, but it is a necessary and practical.  Maybe tomorrow the wind will let up.

Nothing to exciting to report.  The last few days the wind has been awful but me and “Playboy” have just been toughing it out and riding all over Penrose.  And we have spent several hours in the arena.  Thursday a group of people came over to ride their horses in a new arena so “Playboy” is getting used to different people and horses.  Today “Playboy” got his feet trimmed again.  I think his front hooves are perfect now, and we are working on getting is rear hooves balanced.  He was really tall in the heals.  My farrier is taking a little off at a time so not cause any injury.  “Playboy” stands so good for everything.  I plan on taking him back out to the creek tomorrow.  He loves the water.  Except for the wind it has been a great couple of days.

March 30, 2010–One Tired Boy

March 31st, 2010

FUN,FUN,FUN,FUN,FUN OH YEAH FUN.  Got outside early this morning and rode “Playboys” stable mate “Danny”.  Then haltered ‘Playboy” and worked on his head shy issues.  He is getting better everyday.  George, Sandy, and Maria wanted to go to the creek so in the trailers the horses went.  We played around in the creek for an hour or so.  Me and “Playboy” found a deep hole and I got a little wet.  The ride made for good pictures today and got “Playboy” used to more horse and riders next to him.  I unsaddled and loaded all the horses back in the trailer and hauled home.  It was to nice of a day to end there so I re saddled “Playboy” and worked on some arena stuff.  “Playboy” is starting to get a really nice stop.  After that workout it was bath time.  Tonia grabbed all the Cowboy Magic shampoo and conditioners and met me at the hose.  “Playboy” moved around during the entire bath but was not really spooky of any of it.  The hotter it gets the more he will crave a bath.  He sure looks sharp all cleaned up.   After he dried out I put him back in his corral to rest.  2 hours later back in the trailer he went.  We headed to the gymkhana at the crossroads.  He was a lot better tonight with all the commotion and I was able to introduce him to allot of new people.  We only stayed for about 30 minutes and brought him home.  I am really happy with how today went and how well “Playboy” did with a full days worth of STUFF.

Spring weather is finally here!  Today I introduced “Playboy” to a bridle today.  He took a bit just fine.  He does not play with it like I expected.  After about 5 minutes he was flexing a giving to the bit very well.  After a short arena workout we headed down the road and a nieghbor said the creek was running and the road to it was dried out.  So we ran home and loaded up in the trailer.  Off to the creek we went.  “Playboy” didn’t even hessitate to walk in the water.  I led him around it for a while then saddled him up.  I forgot to bring a headstall so I had to use his halter.  Good thing that is how I started him.  We played in the water for about an hour or so then loaded up and headed home.  He trailers like a champ and loads like a pro.  Fun wet day.
